What is this course about?

The A Level Spanish course focuses on three distinctive areas of student.

Component 1 – Speaking (30%)

Component 2 – Listening, Reading, Grammatical Application and Translation (50%)

Component 3 – Written response in Spanish (20%)

Students will study many themes relating to social and political issues within the modern Hispanic world as well as studying the history for Spain from 1931 to present day. This is supplemented by the study of the play La Casa de Bernarda Alba – Lorca and of a film El Laberinto del Fauno by Guillermo del Toro.

How you will be assessed?

All components of the course are assessed at the end of the two-year programme of study.

What will it prepare you for?

Studying a language beyond GCSE will open up so many pathways to future study be that academically at university or as a passport to a more vocational route.

Subject entry requirements:

Grade 5 at GCSE or native (home) language exposure to Spanish.
