BTEC Level 3 in Digital Games Design and Development

What is the course about?

This qualification is designed to provide a technical introduction to digital games production. Learners develop skills in areas such as games engine scripting, 3D modelling and environment and games testing. This qualification is for post-16 learners who are looking to progress to higher or degree apprenticeships, employment or to further education or training.

What will you study?

You still study everything that is associated with games design and development. This will give all learners the confidence and the skills to develop both 2D and 3D games. Learners will be shown what the features of games are and how they will draw in different target audiences. Learners will also have the opportunity to test games too and critically evaluate each game for different genres.

You will study the following units:

  • Unit 3 – Digital Media Skills (20hour external assessment)
  • Unit 13 – Games Design Production
  • Unit 33 – 2D Animation
  • Unit 32 – Game Engine Scripting
  • Unit 42 – Games testing

Subject entry requirements

English – 4 or above

Maths – 4 or above

BTEC DIT or GCSE Computer Science – L2 Merit/ Grade 4 or above

How you will be assessed

5 units of which 2 are mandatory and 1 is external. The one external assessment is to be completed within a 20hour exam. There is no written external assessments as part of this qualification.
